A Brief Description...

Churcham has a population of about 650 widely spread out around the locality. St Andrews church is a Grade II listed building and was founded before 1066. It is said to be one of the most distinctive churches in the area. The tower of St Andrews has a Rhenish helm similar to that of St Marys church in Sompting, Sussex. This was erected when the church was rebuilt in 1878 following a fire which destroyed the original which was made of timber.

A large part of the church is however early Norman. Of particular note is its typically Romanesque chancel arch, and there are two Norman doorways. A stained glass east window by Hardman depicting The Transfiguration was presented to the church in 1868.

The churchyard contains the grave of Private Alfred Henry Hook VC which attracts visitors from around the world.

The 1st Sunday of the month is an 11.00am shared service of Morning worship with St Michael and All Angels Bulley and alternates between the two churches. The second Sunday of the month is an 11.00am shared service of Holy Communion with St Michael and All Angels Bulley and alternates between the two churches. The 3rd Sunday of the month is a 10.00am family service. This is an all-age service with music, talks, visual aids, games, activities and refreshments with the aim being to make everyone feel welcome, included and encouraged. The 4th Sunday of the month is a 9.30am Holy Communion service. All are welcome to all of our services.

There is a primary school in the parish and school services are held in church at key points in the school and church year.
